Pennyroyal
Pennyroyal (the scientific name is Clinopodium nepeta) is an aromatic plant belonging to the family of Lamiaceae and the genus Clinopodium. Some even use the synonym Calamintha nepeta. Its leaves are oval, with the margin that can also be slightly notched. The flowers are single and violet in colour. Not to be confused with the Mentha pulegium, a species that in some areas of Italy - especially Lazio - is improperly called mint, but that corresponds to the so-called Roman mint (the two species differ from the inflorescence: the vertical development with single flowers of mint, roundish with flowers close to the inflorescence of the Mentha pulegium). Moreover, while mint itself has roundish inflorescences with close flowers, mint has pink/purple flowers with the typical mouth shape. The leaves of the mint are small with margins that can be linear or slightly indented. It has a characteristic scent similar to mint and is present in arid and uncultivated meadows.
